Eliška Bartůňková ABSTRAKT Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem antikvariátů v Československu a České republice, od jejich největšího rozkvětu po roce 1989 až do současnosti, s přesahem k předrevoluční zkušenosti narátorů, ať již s prací v antikvariátech či jako návštěvníků a zákazníků antikvariátů či knižních burz. Primárně orálně-historický výzkum se zaměřuje na problematiku každodennosti v antikvariátu, specifika práce se starými knihami a jejich proměnu v různých časových obdobích s důrazem na vybrané mezníky. KLÍČOVÁ SLOVA každodennost, orální historie, antikvariát, knižní kultura, podnikání ABSTRACT The thesis examines the phenomenon of antiquarian bookshops in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, from the biggest boom after 1989 to the present day, with a focus on the narrators' pre-revolutionary experience of working in antiquarian bookshops and narrators as visitors and customers of antiquarian bookshops or book fairs. The oral history research focuses on everyday life in the antiquarian bookstore, on the specifics of working with old books and their transformation in different time periods. Antonín Koniáš: life and work

Antonín Koniáš life and work This thesis is showing Antonín Koniáš as one of the personalities of Czech baroq recatholization process. It introduces Koniáš from three different angles of view: as a personality, as an author of indexes of banned literature and as a mythical figure. Koniáš's perception and opinions about books is accentuated in the thesis as well as Koniáš's impact on book culture on Czech territory. Koniáš is depicted as a missionary, preacher and writer. Based on Koniáš's Indexes and a study of expert literature, the thesis highlights his views and opinions. The thesis also compares two editions of Indexes and indicates the differences between them. The thesis also summarizes a knowledge about myths concerning Koniáš, shortly introduces his first biographers and tries to estimate the number of books which Koniáš burned during his missions.
The Libraries and Reader's Reception in the Early Humanism Period in Bohemia

The dissertation looks into the book culture, book production and readership in the kingdom of Bohemia in early humanism. It explores the conditions of rise and reception of book printing in the kingdom of Bohemia. The mind-set of the Utraquist society, resistant to the influence from abroad, international isolation of the Utraquist Bohemia and the previous insignificant manuscript production proved to be the factors which failed to encourage the arrival of book printing in the country. The initial advancement of book printing was hesitant and could not to keep up with the more developed trade abroad. The Czech printing production related to the efforts of reformation to further enhance the moral status of the society soon turned to disseminating literature in the vernacular, yet often they were translated literature. The early Czech printed production however was affected by low quality and quantity of prints and was not of the significance declared by the previous generations of researchers. Personalities of the Catholic society were more inclusive about new ideas from abroad. In the contemporary society the Catholics were therefore the first ones to embrace book printing and also they were quicker in reception of humanism. 23. – 24. září se uskutečnila interdisciplinární konference „States of the Book“, jejímž hlavním organizátorem byl ústav pro anglickou literaturu a filozofii West Point Academy USA ve spolupráci s Mellonovou nadací. Akademici a vědci z USA, Velké Británie a České republiky se v pěti panelech zaměřili na metody a účinky, které měly a mají texty ve formě knihy a dalších tištěných médií na společnost v různých lokalitách od starověku po současnost.

A Book on its way from Manuscript to the Reader

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of the book as crucial means of communication of the author (of the artistic and non-artistic) text with the reader. The material object book is examined in detail as a product, goods and object of the aesthetic interest. The work focuses primarily on the following questions: What is happening with the text from the moment of the manuscript submission to the publisher until the moment when is held in reader's hands for the first time? What subjects, institutions or interests are entering (or may enter) the game during the production, distribution and sale of the book and what is their particular role? What is the form and function of graphical and peritextual components of the book? All questions are answered in regard to the current state of Czech literary culture.
